Who is Laura Veirs?
Laura Veirs is an American singer-songwriter celebrated for her thoughtful, poetic folk-pop albums. In 2011, she released Tumble Bee: Laura Veirs Sings Folk Songs for Children, her first family album, which introduced a new generation to classic American folk songs.
What is their music like?
Tumble Bee is a collection of traditional children’s folk songs reimagined with Veirs’ signature warmth and artistry. Acoustic guitars, banjo, fiddle, and gentle percussion provide a rich, earthy backdrop for her clear, expressive voice. The result is music that feels timeless and contemporary all at once.
Why we think you’ll love it
This isn’t just a children’s album—it’s a beautifully crafted folk record that happens to feature songs for kids. Veirs’ interpretations are tender, playful, and musically engaging for all ages. Standout tracks include Tumblebee, All the Pretty Little Horses, and Jack Can I Ride. Parents who love modern folk and Americana will find themselves listening long after the kids are asleep.
Artist Bio
Released in 2011 on Raven Marching Band Records, Tumble Bee was produced by Veirs’ longtime collaborator (and husband) Tucker Martine. The album includes traditional songs like Prairie Lullaby, King Kong Kitchie Kitchie Ki-Me-O, and Little Lap Dog Lullaby, along with a title track penned by folk legend Woody Guthrie.
Featuring contributions from guest artists including Colin Meloy (of The Decemberists), Tumble Bee was widely praised by critics and won a Parents’ Choice Gold Award. It has since become a family music favorite for its authenticity, beauty, and respect for tradition.
