R&D Project in Manchester - Day 4

David here on day 4 of our R&D project with Z-arts. Today was the end of week 1 and sadly the last day with the wonderful Joseph Coelho. We started the day by running through all the songs dialogue that had been written over the week, timing it as we went, to try and get a feel of what we were going to be able to showcase at the end of the second week.

It was lovely to see how well it was all starting to hang together and feel like a whole piece as opposed to a series of moments loosely tied together. After this we chatted about how we would present the content to the performers the following week, and what was the priority for them to start working on. We agreed that there were two key set pieces that were really important to clearly showcase our intentions for the final production, and that these should be the starting point for the three performers next week.

Joe then spent a busy hour or so formatting everything properly and creating one long document with all the lyrics and dialogue. Once it was double spaced, it ran to just over forty pages which felt like a mighty achievement after just four days of hard work!

At the end of the day we all headed to the station for our respective trains and journeys. It’s been a fantastic week and I’m so excited to see what our talented performers do with the writing and songs we’ve worked on throughout this first week.

This R&D project is a commission by Z-arts, supported by Big Imaginations.
