Adventures of a Cat in Space Expands into Midlands Communities with Arts Council England Backing
Musical point-and-click adventure to deliver school workshops and public gallery installation in the West Midlands ahead of 2027 launch.
Award-winning West Midlands indie studio Tall Story Games and family arts organisation Little Seeds Music have secured significant funding from Arts Council England to bring Adventures of a Cat in Space to full development — and to deliver a meaningful community engagement programme rooted in the heart of the Midlands.
The demo for the musical point-and-click adventure has already racked up nearly 100k downloads, earned a 96% review score, been included in Apple’s Featured App showcase and received a "Most Anticipated Game" nomination at the Debug Game Awards 2026. The game will enter full production in November 2026, targeting a 2027 release on PC, mobile and consoles.
Taking the Game into Innercity Schools
As part of a partnership with Wolverhampton Arts & Culture (WAC), the project will bring hands-on game design workshops to primary schools in the West Midlands. Pupils will collaborate to design their own level and characters for the game and take part in interactive songwriting workshops — giving children from innercity communities direct, practical experience of the creative process behind a commercially released video game.
The workshops are designed to break down barriers between young people and creative cultural engagement, using an accessible, music-led format to explore storytelling, world-building and interactive design.
A Public Game Station at Wolverhampton Art Gallery
A dedicated public game station will be installed in the Family Gallery space within Wolverhampton Art Gallery, giving visitors free access to play Adventures of a Cat in Space as part of their visit. WAC's Easter events programme will further introduce audiences to the design process behind video games through live play, music and creative activities.
Free download codes will be distributed to all workshop participants and the wider public, ensuring the game reaches families who may face financial or cultural barriers.
About the Game
Adventures of a Cat in Space follows an unsuspecting feline accidentally launched into the far reaches of the galaxy. Accompanied by a sardonic onboard computer voiced by Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who, Broadchurch), players explore strange worlds, solve puzzles, meet eccentric alien characters and collect original songs to find their way home.
The game integrates an entirely original musical score by acclaimed family songwriter David Gibb directly into its gameplay and narrative — songs are unlocked through play, making music an active part of the adventure rather than background dressing. Designed for ages 5–11 and their families, it's built for shared, cross-generational play.
The full release significantly expands on the demo, with new locations, characters, puzzles, story content and a complete original soundtrack performed by a cast including West End and Broadway talent. The game will cost £5 or less, with no in-app purchases, microtransactions or advertising, providing a safe and affordable experience for all ages.

The overwhelmingly positive response to our demo showed us there's a real appetite for family-friendly games that combine adventure, storytelling and the magic of musical theatre.
