Performer callout: Luna Loves Library Day The Musical

We’re looking to cast a talented peformer to star in our upcoming production of ‘Luna Loves Library Day - The Musical’, with book by Joseph Coelho, music and lyrics by David Gibb, and directed by Dermot Daly.

About Luna Loves Library Day The Musical

Luna Loves Library Day is a new musical for families based on the picture book by Joseph Coelho and Fiona Lumbers, adapted for the stage by Joseph Coelho with music and lyrics by David Gibb. It’s a co-production from Little Seeds Music and Z-arts, with support from Arts Council England, Big Imaginations, Manchester City of Literature, The Story Museum and Wonderarts. The production will be made up of an ensemble cast of actor musicians and will be designed to be performed in traditional theatre venues as well community venues, specifically libraries. 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for actor who is either black or mixed race with black heritage to play the role of ‘Dad’. The ability to play the guitar at a confident level is essential for this role. They should have a very strong singing voice, and be confident singing and performing in a range of musical genres. Experience in musical theatre and theatre for families would be welcome.

As live music will be a key component to this production, we are open to working with musicians who may have not had any formal theatre training, but still have an innate talent and ability to connect with an audience.

Dates and Location

Auditions will be held on the 15th and 16th June in Manchester and Oxford.

The production dates are as follows:

  • Monday 2 October - Saturday 11 November: rehearsals, technical and first touring period

  • Wednesday 31 January - Sunday 10 March: remount and second touring period

Rehearsals will take place at Z-arts, Manchester (https://www.z-arts.org/)
The tour will take place across the UK. Confirmed venues include Half Moon Theatre, Farnham Maltings, Norwich Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres, The Royal & Derngate, Warwick Arts Centre, The Gulbenkian, and The Lyric Hammersmith. 

Fees:
The fee is £6000 (ten weeks work at £600 per week). Accommodation, travel and per diems are included as additional as per ITC rates at the time of applying for Arts Council Funding (January 2023).
