R&D Project in Manchester - Day 10

Creative Director David Gibb shares his thoughts on the final day of our R&D project at Z-arts in Manchester, to explore adapting ‘Luna Loves Library Day’ by Joseph Coelho and Fiona Lumbers into a musical stage show.

So the title of this final blog post is possibly a little misleading, as we actually spent our last day of our two week R&D project in Oxford at The Story Museum. We were there for a second sharing of a scratch performance and to film it in their beautiful Woodshed theatre. Our brilliant designer Nomi Everall had put together some nice simple lighting changes, just to add a bit of atmosphere to the piece and mark out each moment.

The sharing went well, and as in Manchester there was a really enthusiastic response from the small but appreciative audience who had mustered. Unfortunately the main camera that was filming the performance cut out two thirds of the way through, which meant that we had to redo the last section of the piece. Luckily, our stalwart performers dealt with this setback brilliantly, and it only took another 40 minutes or so to reshoot the bits we needed.

With the final take done, it was finally time to say goodbye to our wonderful team of creatives and performers. Despite spending five short days together, it had really felt like we were a little family and it was with a mixture of elation and what we were achieved but also sadness at it all being over, that we all parted ways at the end of the day. However, I have no doubt that our paths will all cross again in the future, either on this project or others!

We’ll be sharing snippets of the final film on here so be sure to check back soon.
