The Okee Dokee Brothers

Who are The Okee Dokee Brothers?

The Okee Dokee Brothers are an award winning bluegrass duo from Minneapolis, USA.

What is their music like?

Their music blends the best of bluegrass, country, folk, and American roots, featuring traditional instruments—especially banjo and acoustic guitar—tight harmonies, and lyrics that celebrate nature and the great outdoors.

Why we think you’ll love it

Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing have been best friends since childhood, and it shows in their beautiful, family-friendly music. Inspired by the natural world, they created a series of award-winning adventure albums in which they canoed down the Mississippi River, hiked the Appalachian Trail, and rode horseback along the Great Divide. The lyrics are clever and witty, the harmonies tight and spine-tingling, and the songs as catchy as anything you’ll hear. If you need proof, just look at their trophy cabinet: their 2012 album Can You Canoe? won the Grammy for Best Children’s Album.

Artist Bio

As childhood friends growing up in Denver, Colorado, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing were always exploring the outdoors. Whether it was rafting down their neighborhood creek or discovering hiking trails through the Rocky Mountains, Joe and Justin were born adventurers. Now, as the GRAMMY® Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers, they have put this passion for the outdoors at the heart of their Americana Folk music.

Joe and Justin record and perform family music with a goal to inspire children and their parents to step outside and get creative. They believe this can motivate kids to gain a greater respect for the natural world, their communities, and themselves.

The five-time Parents’ Choice Award winners have been featured on PBS KIDS, garnered praise from the likes of NPR’s All Things Considered and USA Today, and have been called “two of family music’s best songwriters."
